More Than History. We Are a Living Irish Brotherhood.

Welcome to the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Montgomery County Division #4 - The Yellow Jack Donahue Division.

We are part of America’s oldest and largest Irish Catholic fraternal organization. But we aren’t here just to look at the past. We are here to build a community for the present.

If you are looking to connect deeper with your Irish heritage, put your faith into action, and find genuine camaraderie in a disconnected world, you’ve found your place.

Our Roots: Born from Resilience

The AOH wasn't founded as a social club; it was born out of necessity.

We started in 1836 in New York City. At the time, Irish Catholic immigrants faced intense prejudice and violence from Nativist groups - some so radicalized that they burned Catholic churches. The AOH was formed to protect the clergy, defend our churches, and support families fleeing the Great Hunger in Ireland.

We trace our spirit back to the secret societies in Ireland that protected priests and kept the faith alive during the oppressive Penal Laws that forbade speaking Gaelic & celebrating Mass.. That legacy of having each other's backs is still the foundation of who we are today.

What We Do Today

While we no longer need to physically guard churches, our mission has evolved to meet modern needs. We are the bridge between our ancestral homeland and our local community here in Central Montgomery County.

We focus on three core pillars, living out our motto of “Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity”:

  • Celebrating Irish Culture: We don't just wear green once a year. We foster Irish art, dance, music, sports, and history year-round. We provide a space where newcomers and fourth-generation Irish Americans alike can feel at home among "their own."

  • Local Impact & Charity: We turn faith into action. The Church teaches the Faith plus Works is the path to sanctification. Through fundraising, scholarships, and local volunteering, we support our community, Catholic education, and charitable causes both here and in IrelandBecause of the history of the Great Hunger, an important focus of the AOH is addressing food insecurity.

  • Advocacy: We remain at the forefront of issues concerning the Irish diaspora, including immigration reform, human rights, Right-To-Life issues, and supporting a peaceful path to a free and united Ireland.

A Legacy of Leadership

When you join the AOH, you join the long lineage of Irish-Americans who shaped this country. From labor leaders and astronauts to figures like President John F. Kennedy and Fulton Sheen, Hibernians have always been leaders in their communities.

Following in those footsteps, many brothers from Division 4 are members of the Isle of Erin Major Degree Team, one of only nine teams in the nation, and who are officers at the county, state and national level.

Today, we are 80,000+ members strong across 46 states, Ireland, and beyond.

Are you ready to connect with your heritage and join a brotherhood that stands for something?
